Abstract: Sustainable Development Indices accounting for Philippine natural resources and ecosystem services at the national and site levels are presented as information support for national economic and environmental decision-making. At the national level, the Adjusted Net Savings or Genuine Savings is discussed. At the site level, economic valuation estimates of High Conservation Value Areas (HCVA) are presented to address gaps in the country's efforts within the UN System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (UN SEEA) through the recently approved PENCAS Act of 2024.
Speaker: Marian S. Delos Angeles is Board Chairperson of the Resources, Environment and Economics Center for Studies, Inc. (REECS). A natural resource/environmental economist, she engages in natural capital accounting, action research, and conservation policy. She teaches part-time as a professorial lecturer at the U.P. School of Economics and the U.P. Open University.
Ann earned her MA and Ph.D. (Economics) from the University of the Philippines; BS in Mathematics, Magna cum Laude, from the University of San Carlos as a full Science Talent Scholar. She undertook enhancement courses as UNDP/PIDS post-doctoral fellow at the University of Washington, Seattle, USA. She is a GAWID awardee of the Philippine Agricultural Economics and Development Association, and an Alumni Association Awardee of the University of San Carlos.
She worked full-time at the World Bank (Washington DC), at the World Bank Institute and the Wealth Accounting and the Valuation of Ecosystem Services Global Partnership. Senior Environmental Policy Economist at the World Agroforestry Center; Senior Research Fellow of PIDS; Assistant Professor of UPLB; Research Associate of DAP, and Senior Economist at NEDA. She led the Philippine Environmental and Natural Resources Project on a part-time basis for ten years.
She was engaged as consultant and Trainor in environmental economics by international institutions and committees, co-authored thirty publications, and travelled professionally to forty-five countries.
