About the Seminar:
In this seminar of the Angelo King Institute, Professor Jesus Felipe talks with Professor William Mitchell about the state of economics, main current debates and controversies, how governments and central banks have reacted to the recent economic crises, and macroeconomics in developing countries.
About the Speaker:
Professor William Mitchell holds the Chair in Economics and is the Director of the Centre of Full Employment and Equity (CofFEE) at the University of Newcastle, Australia. He is also the Docent Professor of Global Political Economy at the University of Helsinki, Finland, and JSPS International Fellow at Kyoto University, Japan.
He is the author of various books, including Eurozone Dystopia, Reclaiming the State, and the textbook Macroeconomics.
He is one of the major exponents of the school of thought known as Modern Money Theory (MMT). MMT proponents were very active during the COVID pandemic favoring government spending, and not just during crises.
This is a great opportunity to hear first hand what MMT is and is not about.
